OUR STORY

The story behind Blue Line

Blue Line Chinchillas is based in Illinois, and owned by a retired law enforcement officer. The thin blue line is a personal tribute to that chapter of his life and the inspiration behind our name.

Today, the little things take center stage: getting to know each chinchilla, watching the babies grow, and sharing their personalities. Temperament is a central focus of our breeding approach, alongside health, pedigree, and daily care. Socialization and attention to each animal help us understand how they respond to people and handling.

Temperament matters

We focus on temperament because a good match involves more than a favorite color or photograph. Each chinchilla has its own personality: some are more outgoing, while others need more time to become comfortable. Tell us about your household, your experience with animals, and what you hope for in a companion. We can talk about the chinchilla’s temperament, handling experience, care requirements, and the preparation involved. A social chinchilla may still prefer interacting on its own terms, and settling into a new home takes patience.
